Jardines Comunitarios Villa Itatí

In 1989, a group of parents from Villa Itatí in Quilmes met with the concern of having a safe place to leave their children while they were at work. This is how the “Pampa” kindergarten was founded, the first Community Kindergarten in the neighborhood. Then the “Obrador” and “Ponderosa” kindergartens were opened too. All three provide a space for the attention and care not only of pre-scholars, but also school support and recreational activities for primary school children and young people in high-school.

The kindergartens show the work of the mothers of the neighborhood who organized themselves to take care of the children in rotating shifts. The organization also provides community education training workshops so that the mothers have more tools to develop their tasks. They also feed 250 families with breakfast, lunch and snacks.
